Charlotte-mecklenburg schools

CMYC serves as the Superintendents Student Advisory Council at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. School leaders meet regularly with the student advisory council to hear student feedback and ideas about policies, budgets, school and district strategies and projects, and more. CMYC members also serve on CMS committees and task forces. The Student Advisor to the Board of Education serves as a CMYC officer. Website

CMYC is Charlotte’s Youth Council. A city youth program, CMYC works with city officials and staff to highlight important issues impacting Charlotte youth and to provide feedback and ideas for policies, strategies, and problem-solving. CMYC recently engaged with city leaders on a wide variety of topics including city planning, community safety, internships and job readiness, transportation, sustainability, and leadership development. With the county’s public information department, CMYC helps county officials and staff to engage with youth for feedback and ideas for policy, budgets, strategy, and problem-solving. CMYC recently engaged with county leaders on topics including mental health and substance abuse prevention, treatment, and strategic planning; county budget priorities; community safety; educational attainment; racial disparities; workforce development; elections; and other topics. CMYC is a program of Charlotte K-12 civic literacy and youth civic leadership nonprofit GenerationNation. GenerationNation develops a new generation of civic leaders. Through GenerationNation, students build civic literacy, becoming civic leaders who know first-hand how their governments and communities works, understand the big issues connected to local policy and decisionmaking, know how to find and use good sources of news and civic information, and build the knowledge, experience, and social capital for success as leaders in school, college, career, and civic life.
